March 24th Pt. 2
The reason I do this is unclear,
Unclear like our relationship.
It’s murky and dangerous
Waters I can’t navigate.
At least, it is for me.
My lungs feel rotten,
Filled with hate,
love,
heat
For someone I’ll never be
Enough for.
Enough; a tricky word.
It says everything
Yet remains unheard
Because Enough for you,
isn’t me.
I can rip myself to shreds
away with my fat, my hair, my skin
everything that
isn’t to your liking.
I want to be clear; simply your own,
your Enough, your everything.
PLEASE don’t you see?
Look beneath the dust and the dirt and the soil
and see me; ready to be molded
into your perfect gift.
A build-a-bear.
Put your all into me.
INDIYAH MABRY

College of Arts &Sciences
Class of 2022, Interdisciplinary
Indiyah is pursuing an interdisciplinary major that focuses on public policy that affects Black women and sexual minorities. These pieces were an ode to reformation of the self and love. They are wholeheartedly influenced by the spirit of both in Indiyah's life. Indiyah's inspiration comes from poets and songwriters, like Audre Lorde and Solange. And like them, she hopes to focus on the beauty of feeling, unabashedly.
